Harry Potter poster!

In this poster synergy is achieved as it is taking the media of a wall poster and trying to make you convert this into watching the film in the cinema, a completely different media platform, it is created as you would be able see the poster on the side of bus for example and you will instantly know that it is Harry Potter, this will stay in your head, and say you were going out to the shop you may see a Harry potter DVD and you may be more likely to buy the DVD, this is showing how a poster based media can have an effect on cinema based media or DVD based media.

analysis of two film trailers

Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2 trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFGNG5U1l-g

The Harry Potter trailer started with the camera zooming in on the back of Voldermorts head, this sets the scene as you know it is in the forbidden forest this shows us he is still alive and ready to fight in the second part of the film. Harry Potter walks from behind him and is seen in a deep field view this increases the viewers interest as you know they are enemies if you have seen the other films, also the fact that Voldermort says “coming to his death”, at this point the camera is zoomed in on Harry and he winces and gulps as he knows he is danger, the camera also points down on Harry when Voldermort is speaking to him to make him seem as though he has superior power over Harry, this will entice the audience, within the first 10 seconds of the trailer. From the very start there is a non diagetic sound playing at a very high tempo, this gives a heightened sense of threat and combat. There are many jump cuts through the trailer this is because it is trying to show many of the good parts of the movie so that it looks good to viewers, the fast sound also gives a sense of panic and the need for fast actions.
There are a few establishing and tracking shots within the trailer this is to show the audience a few familiar places that they can recognise to make them feel as though they have not even left the film, so that h can simply jump straight back into the “enchanting, final chapter” of the book, as the narration says in a deep persuasive voice, it does this to make you want to watch the film. The tracking occurs when harry and a few of his friends are running over the old wooden bridge it shows the hurry and panic that the trailer is trying to show, this makes it great as people will want to watch the film after being enthralled by the trailer.
There are a few over the shoulder shots to enable you to see what both sets of people are saying and their reaction when it has been said. Ron says to Harry “we can end this now” and the music stops this shows that this is an important part of the film.
The titles on the trailer where all short and quick so that your eye catches them and you are aware of them, they where ll in bold and the main titles where shown such as the release date (15th July) and also (the final begins) all shown in the traditional Harry Potter wall writing, it also shows that the film is in (IMAX and in 3D) which adds to the viewing experiences which will attract viewers, also gives a website for more information (harrypoter.com) this gives people more sources of information for the movie.

Fright Night film trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxqtyTH5bzM

The trailer for the new horror film fright night is a good film, it shows little content at the start in terms of what the film is going to be about, it even shows characteristics of a comedy genre with a joke put in at the start, with upbeat music and humorous content, as many horror films do, it shows a lot of content in the trailer which you don’t often get in other film trailers, this is one part of the genre, the music then drops and music that is often represented in horror films, showing that the film isn’t all going to be about comedy. The harry potter trailer is a lot like the fright night trailer in the way it shows a lot of content and they both give a clear plot and both seem to give quite a lot away however they don’t show you how everything fits together.
The fright night trailer is good as it draws you in as it is a remake so they probably have an already made fan base, they also have a star cast including Colin Farrel and Anton Yelchin who are well known in Hollywood and the film industry, this is good to get their faces in the trailer early on so that an of their fans can see that it is one of their films.
The trailer has a green screen at the start which shows what age the film is for and that the motion picture association of America, INC give the permission to show this trailer at American cinemas, the trailer gives a date of release and it also gives the title and it also gives a internet address that you can go on to look up the film even more, and showing that touchstone picture created the film.

purpose of trailors, Film magazine front covers and posters in marketing a film.

A trailer is a very short advertisement often shown at the beginning of movies or on the television sometimes shown on DVDs and blu-ray discs, that show highlights or certain parts of a film, the trailers are used before films so that viewers are attracted to their films, film trailers are viewed by nearly 10 billion viewers a year. Trailers are useful in making people attracted to a certain film.
The purpose of film magazine front covers are to attract and increase the popularity and increase the hype about a film so that the readers are persuaded to go out and watch the film, posters are used so that you can see the film everywhere you go all day everyday so that the film is constantly in your mind this will eventually make you go and watch the film.
