analysis of two movie poster!

In this Empire film magazine the characters of the popular harry potter film are dressed in their ordinary clothes, this appeals to me as it is basically saying that in the magazine you will be reading about them personally and not all about the film itself, in the other empire magazine front cover they are dressed up as their characters, this is also a good front cover as the harry potter fan base will want to buy the magazine purely because they love harry potter. However I believe that the plain clothed magazine is much better as I just feel that the different appearance would make people attracted to it. There are no pugs or major puns or headlines on the magazine which I find very clever as it is very brave and unique decision for the magazine to have came up with as they are expecting their readers to already know who they are, in contrast the second empire magazine gives many pugs and a headline to show who they are and what they are going to be writing about in their magazine, they have the pug of “FREE” “spectacular potter photo special” this is to attract fans, this is a very good way of getting readers to buy the magazine, it is also clever as they aren’t actually giving anything away they are just saying it as the pictures would of been in the magazine anyway, they are saying free pictures as they expect their readers to rip the pages out and have them as a picture. The characters are in front of the title of the magazine this shows that the characters are the main anchorage taking up the centre of the magazine, if you had never seen the film before you could tell who the main character was as “harry” is standing in the middle with the other two characters standing either side of him. There is a Golden banner running through the middle of the magazine, this is also a way of getting the attention of readers as it say “free collector’s portfolio the complete cast come together for our BIGGEST EVER EXCLUSIVE” this will appeal to any Harry potter fans and collector’s wishing to read about their favourite film and characters. It also has a puff in a black circle saying “the exclusive the world wanted” this is a clever selling technique as the magazine is basically saying to readers they have provided a great opportunity and a great article for them to read, saying that the magazine is looking after the interests of their readers. It also has other puffs saying “PLUS” and other articles that are inside showing that the magazine isn’t all about Harry Potter.
